The ARTOS brand
The Beginnings (1991–1993)
When a new company took its first steps on 19 June 1991, no one could have anticipated the value and progress this would bring to the sport of fencing in Germany and on the international stage. As early as 1993, ARTOS was able to establish itself on the international scene with its high-quality products, supplying well-known companies such as France Lames, among others.
The Breakthrough with the Fencing Scoring Machine SG31 (1994–1996)
As early as 1994, the fencing scoring machine SG31 was used not only at the German Championships in Ludwigshafen, but also at the European Championships in Krakow. This was only the beginning of the triumph of the innovative scoring technology, whose success story began at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and continued through to Beijing 2008.
Emil Beck and the Olympic Training Centre Tauberbischofsheim
In the mid-1990s, Emil Beck, the iconic coach of German fencing, also took notice of the high-quality products from ARTOS. Beck praised ARTOS for its very high standards, leading him to equip the Olympic Training Centre in Tauberbischofsheim with ARTOS's world-leading scoring technology.
The medal-maker from the Tauber was also won over by ARTOS fencing clothing, calling it "a very good alternative to the products commonly available on the market".
The Innovative ARTOS Fencing Piste (from 1997)
In 1997, production began on the prototype of the lightweight and innovative ARTOS fencing piste. After a successful test series at the State Performance Centre in Halle/Saale, the lightweight fencing piste was ready for its first major debut at the German Championships.
At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the piste passed its ultimate test at the highest level during the bouts for gold, silver and bronze.
World Championships Leipzig 2005 – The Definitive Breakthrough
ARTOS achieved the definitive breakthrough for its new fencing pistes at the 2005 World Championships in Leipzig. The 75 coloured pistes became a signpost to the future of the sport and were also used at the 2007 World Championships in St. Petersburg and at the 2010 European Championships in Leipzig.
ARTOS Today – A Globally Recognised Brand Name
New benchmarks in tournament organisation were set through the successful collaboration between ARTOS and the German Fencing Federation at the European Championships in Leipzig, which became one of the most successful European title competitions in history.
ARTOS is today a globally recognised brand name and one of the largest and most innovative suppliers of fencing products. Successful partnerships with the FIE within the framework of the "International Development Programme" and with shoe manufacturer Nike reflect the potential and qualities of ARTOS.
